On Saturday August 9, 2008, from 11-7pm "Under the Tents....An Irish Festival by the Sea" will be held at the Elks, on Rt. 108 in Dover, NH. There will be much for everyone to enjoy including music, musical workshops, crafts and game, a ceili and Irish tea. This is being organized in an effort to bring Irish arts, heritage and culture together, while promoting the sport of Irish dance. The event will be hosted by the parent's group which supports the dancers of Murray Irish Dance Academy located in Stratham, NH in an effort to foster an appreciation for, and a greater understanding of, Irish culture.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Dover's own Eugene Byrne, MacTalla Mor of New York; Matt and Shannon Heaton of Massachusetts, Reaganta of Exeter, O'Hanleigh of Vermont; and of course members of the Ancient Order of Hibernian Pipe and Drum group.
The Murray Irish Dance Academy Dancers have participated in area events such as Apple Harvest and the Newmarket Heritage Festival as well as performing for both nursing homes for local non-profit groups and charities.
As a way of giving back to the community, these dancers have collected toys/ items along the Dover Holiday parade route to make sure that area under privileged children would have gifts at Christmas. They will continue in their efforts of encouraging community service by the collection of items at the Irish Fest for the NH Food Bank. To help promote the donation of items, a drawing will be held for those attendees who donate money or by non-perishable food items to the NH food Bank.
This will be a family friendly event for all to enjoy with music, dancing, kids activities, food vendors and Irish goods vendors. If you wish to become a sponsor or vendor at this event, or for detailed information about "Under the Tents....Irish Fest by the Sea" please visit the website at
